Similar to continuous care, General Inpatient (GIP) care involves temporary round-the-clock care to address the needs and concerns of a patient experiencing a severe health emergency. However, the key difference between general inpatient care and continuous care is that patients receive GIP care in a Medicare-approved facility. While staying inside a skilled nursing facility, hospice nurses will render 24/7 medical care and support to the patients with crisis management as a central focus. If a patient’s condition stabilizes, they have the freedom to return to their place of residence. To determine a patient’s eligibility to continue receiving GIP care (as a necessity), the facility will re-evaluate and assess their health status at a 24-hour interval.
